UNIQUE VIDEOPROGRAMS FOR SINGERS, VOICE TEACHERS, SPEECH PATHOLOGISTS
& ANYONE INTERESTED IN THE HUMAN VOICE
"How is my voice different from your
voice"
(Produced by "Newton's Apple" - St. Paul, Minnesota, U.S.A.)
This amusing and light hearted description of how the
larynx and the vocal tract function was put together by the television
program "Newton's Apple" in answer to a question from a listener.
It simply, but graphically, teaches the 'source/filter' theory of voicing
and clearly demonstrates how long-term muscular adjustments of the system
give rise to those particular perceptual characteristics that allow us
to perceive one voice as different from another. It is a quick, simple
but excellent introduction to the whole topic of the human voice.

"The Contribution of Aryepiglottic Constriction
to 'Ringing' Voice Quality"
(Produced by Dr. Eiji Yanagisawa & Jo Estill, USA)
This video was prepared for and presented at the 17th
Symposium "Care of the Professional Voice" in New York in June, 1988.
The paper accompanying the video has been published in The Voice Journal,
Vol.3, No.4, pp 342-350 Raven Press Ltd., New York, USA.
Fibrescopic video laryngoscopy was performed on five professional
singers as each sang "Happy Birthday" and parts of the "Star Spangled
Banner" in six different Voice Qualities. Aryepiglottic narrowing
was present in all singers in Twang, Belting and Opera Qualities.
Spectrographic analysis showed this narrowing gave rise to the presence
of the "singers formant". It clearly shows how this narrowing of
the vocal tract produces a voice that is perceived as louder without any
adverse effects on the larynx.

YELL WELL
An alternative treatment for vocal nodules in children
by
ALISON BAGNALL
Founding Director - Voicecraft International Pty.
Ltd.
Speech Pathologist
Voice Lecturer
Yelling does not have to be harmful. Many children
and adults yell well and do not hurt their voice. They are belting
just like the famous Broadway Belters, eg. Ethel Merman, Donna Summer or
Whitney Houston.
This video programme analyses belting, physiologically
and acoustically. It graphically demonstrates how the larynx and
vocal tract can be intelligently shaped to produce this high intensity
vocalisation safely.
The second part of the video is extracted from a 45 minute
session with a child aged five years who has vocal nodules. This
is his first contact with his voice therapist. He is shown the basic
elements and then combines them to produce a creditable belt by the end
of the session. Like the other children who have been taught to belt
by Alison, his nodules resolved in a few months and he continues to yell,
safely.
Running time: 21 minutes
